This data includes experimental analysis data on the response of soil crust characteristics such as porosity, pore structure, internal component distribution of crust, biomass coverage, and abundance to moisture changes and sand burial. Biological soil crust (BSC) samples were collected from the Gurbantongut Desert in October 2023 at the leeward slope of the prevailing wind direction within 1 kilometer (north latitude 44º36'22", east longitude 88º15'16")(position 2 - 3m below the vertical height of the slope top).

Biological soil crust (BSC) samples were collected in October 2023 from the Gurbantongut Desert at the leeward slope of the prevailing wind direction within a 1-kilometer radius (44º36'22"N, 88º15'16" E). In order to study the in-situ structure and cyanobacteria reaction, complete crust samples were used to conduct crust rehydration-dehydration experiments and particle burial experiments. X-ray microCT scans were performed on the prepared crust samples using a Zeiss Xradia 515 Versa X-ray microscope (Zeiss, Germany) and Scout Scan V15.0 software package (Zeiss, Germany).
