This book focuses on pasture land and animal husbandry in semi-desert and desert zones of the Soviet Union. Its discussion is based on large-scale field visits hosted and participated in by the author between 1952 and 1957. The inspection was conducted by the Productivity Research Committee of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, together with the Institute of Botany, the Institute of Geography, the All-Soviet Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Soil Improvement and other institutions, and was entrusted by the State Planning Commission of the Soviet Union. The purpose was to make better use of land and develop pasture animal husbandry. Provide advice. The scope of work is quite broad: The animal husbandry, feed and water resources conditions of the Turkmen Karakum Desert, Karakalpak Kizilkum Desert, and the Ustyut Plateau spanning Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan have been studied; experiments on cultural ranch management and supplementary feeding scale under year-round pasture stocking have been carried out at the Karakur Sheep State Farm; a route survey was conducted on Kyrgyz mountainous desert pastures; Ranch land and animal husbandry in the semi-desert, desert and piedmont areas of western, central, eastern and southern Kazakhstan were also inspected, and the operating activities of state farms, collective farms, machine tractor stations and test stations, as well as grazing organizations on relocated pastures in different seasons were analyzed. The inspection also collected basic economic data from 520 state-owned farms and many collective farms from 1940 to 1956.
