<p>This dataset includes the annual average water level data of Lake Balkhash recorded in the literature from 1880 to 2000, and the annual average water level and lake surface area data extracted from TM remote sensing satellite analysis from September 1972 to October 2017 from 1992 to 2018. A total of 148 data pieces. </p>
The documentary records come from data published by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia (downloaded from the website) and direct purchase of statistical yearbooks and related professional books from Central Asia. Remote sensing analysis data comes from analysis and extraction results of TM remote sensing satellites from September 1972 to October 2017.
The collection of literature data involves the Chinese translation, data screening and sorting of the information in the data source. Remote sensing analysis data is based on Landsat images from 1972 to 2018, and a whole-local adaptive iterative threshold segmentation method is used to extract lake area information.
No changes have been made to the document record data collation process. The average error between remote sensing analysis results and literature record data is 0.18%.
