This book is the first authoritative monograph to systematically evaluate the water balance of lakes and reservoirs across the country during the Soviet period. Based on hydrological observation network data from the 1930s to the 1970s, it elaborates on the water balance calculation methods for different water body types (natural lakes/artificial reservoirs)(including surface runoff, precipitation, evaporation, groundwater exchange and other elements), and provides multi-year water balance data for major lakes and large reservoirs such as Lake Baikal and Lake Ladoga. The book pays special attention to the impact of human activities (such as water conservancy projects) on water resources, providing a scientific basis for Soviet water resources planning.
