This monograph was completed by the team of the Hydrology Teaching and Research Section of the Department of Geography at Leningrad University. It systematically analyzes the spatial distribution laws of annual average runoff of rivers throughout the Soviet Union and its natural geographical driving mechanism. The research covers three core contents: 1. The quantitative impact of natural factors such as climate and topography on runoff formation (especially the relationship between runoff coefficient and precipitation-evaporation balance is demonstrated); 2. Comparison of runoff characteristics in 11 geographical divisions of the Soviet Union (European Plain, Central Asia, Far East, etc.); 3. Regional models of interannual runoff variability and its association with climate oscillations.
