The book contains many travel notes and research papers written by Potanin himself, including two expeditions to northwest Mongolia in 1876-1877 and 1879-1880, as well as a travel report and collection of folk stories to the Daxinganling Mountains in 1899.В.А. Obruchev's article evaluated Potanin's contribution to Central Asian studies from an academic history perspective.
