%X This book is a comprehensive monograph that systematically discusses hydropower resources in the Soviet Union and their development and utilization. The book is divided into seven chapters. It first reviews the history of the development and utilization of hydropower resources in Russia before and after the October Revolution. It then introduces in detail the Soviet Union's river and lake network, the total amount of hydropower resources and their regional distribution, and discusses the river hydrological conditions (including water volume changes, extreme flows, evaporation, sediment, ice conditions and water chemical characteristics). impact on hydropower utilization. The book also expounds the engineering facilities, main equipment, reservoir scheduling and automatic control of modern hydropower stations, and specifically analyzes the impact of large-scale hydropower station construction on river hydrological conditions, surrounding natural environment, reservoir bank reconstruction and fishery.
