中乌拉尔地区的喀斯特研究长期较为薄弱。尽管部分地区曾开展专门调查，并结合钻探和地球物理勘查工作，划定了喀斯特强烈发育区，确定了喀斯特化岩层厚度，查明了地下水位分布，并发现了构造破碎带和埋藏侵蚀切割带等地质构造特征，但相关资料散见于文献、档案和馆藏资料之中，利用十分困难。同时，在可溶性碳酸盐岩和硫酸盐岩广泛分布的地区，任何经济建设活动若忽视喀斯特条件，都难以取得成功，因为喀斯特过程几乎影响着人类生产和社会活动的各个领域（Апродов，1948；Гвоздецкий，1948、1954；Зайцев，1940；Соколов，1962）。
\n本研究是关于中乌拉尔喀斯特的第一部综合性总结成果。研究建立在大量文献资料分析整理的基础上，同时结合作者沿多条横贯乌拉尔山脉路线开展的野外考察成果，对该地区喀斯特发育特征进行了系统研究。
