随着本卷的出版，收录在《苏联小型动物志》系列第69期的《苏联鸟类鉴定手册》的刊行工作现已全部完成。本鉴定手册共收录在苏联境内发现的708种鸟类：\n第一卷收录208种，第二卷193种，第三卷128种，第四卷179种。本卷是在仔细核查苏联科学院动物研究所丰富的馆藏标本、利用大量动物学文献以及部分保存在动物研究所的手稿资料，并结合作者的个人观察基础上编纂而成。\n所有插图均为原创，由画家 В. С. 罗日杰斯特文斯卡娅绘制。\n所有测量数据，尤其是翅膀的测量，均使用游标卡尺进行。\n在分布信息中，凡注明边界\"至\"某处，均应理解为\"包括\"该处。
