蚧壳虫是中亚研究最不充分的昆虫之一，尽管它们的危害性早已众所周知。在中亚和哈萨克斯坦，蚧壳虫是导致果树减产、商品性下降以及果树寿命缩短的原因之一。除了А.阿尔汉格尔斯卡娅的《中亚蚧虫》（1937）一书外，至今缺乏关于这些害虫的生物学、生态学和经济意义的资料，而该书仅提供了约30种蚧壳虫的很不完整且不准确的数据，且早已成为书目珍本，这迫使作者们着手编写本动物志。\n本著作是中亚和哈萨克斯坦蚧壳虫动物志的首部总结性著作。其编写基础是作者们在1960—1967年收集的原始材料，以及哈萨克苏维埃社会主义共和国科学院动物学研究所高级研究员Г.Я.马捷索娃惠予提供的材料和苏联科学院动物研究所收藏的材料。\n本著作由两部分组成——总论部分，提供了关于蚧壳虫形态、变态和生活习性的资料、其动物地理分布、区域分布和经济意义；专论部分，给出了总科、科、亚科、族、属的诊断，并附有相应的检索表对物种进行描述。每个物种都提供了分布、生物学资料（附寄主植物名录）以及有关物种鉴定的说明。本著作附有92幅图，其中85幅为原创，7幅取自Н.博尔赫谢尼乌斯、Т.布希克和А.巴拉绍夫斯基的著作。特别关注了最具危害性物种的生物学和生态学阐述。\n本著作面向广大研究昆虫区系和生态学的昆虫学家、高等院校生物和自然系师生以及植物保护实践工作者。\n在编写动物志过程中，得到了塔吉克苏维埃社会主义共和国科学院院士、生物学博士М.Н.纳尔济库洛夫，生物学副博士Г.Я.马捷索娃和Е.М.达尼尔的宝贵意见。作者们借此机会向他们表示深切感谢。\n本工作在以Е.Н.帕夫洛夫斯基院士命名的塔吉克苏维埃社会主义共和国科学院动物学与寄生虫学研究所完成。\n
